The William Blount Tennis Academy
Started in 2001 with 8 players. Each year, kids from
all schools in the cities and county learn together
in tennis clinics according to age and ability. In
2006, over 50 people participated. Over the past
seven years, several hundred have participated in
our summer tennis academies. Our mission is to
provide a safe, affordable, and productive learning
environment to all who wish to learn and improve
their tennis games. William Blount Coach Marty
Durand is a PTR certified tennis pro who has
maintained this certification for the past seven
years. He has received professional instruction on
how to teach the game to all ages and continues
training each year. Maryville Coach Liz Huffaker has
joined Coach Durand as well as former players. All
camp workers are paid for their services and the
profits from the camps go back into the tennis
program for facility improvements. This year, we are
opening camps up to adults as well. Our goal is to
develop tennis in the entire county through an
affordable program at a public facility. We
appreciate this county's support and look forward to
a great summer camp season.
